Days after a virus computer attack affected distribution of the Los Angeles Times and Tribune Publishing newspapers, it’s origin and motive remain unknown.
The virus caused delivery delays and federal investigators are looking into it.
The San Diego Union-Tribune Publisher told readers “now seems to have been a malicious attack on the company by computer hackers.”
The attack prevented the newspaper from running referrals, classifieds and death notices on Saturday.
The Department of Homeland Security is investigating the attack, which was in the form of a Ryuk ransomware. It is thought to have been of foreign origin and believed to be a targeted attack.
